It’s no secret, I wish I was a chic French girl, gliding around pebbled corners, with that accent, that laid back vibe, a glass of wine in my hands. The dream!
So how do we get there?
FRENCH STYLE 101
There’s a couple of basics that you need to tick off to get that laid back yet sexy style, and heres what is is:
1. THE BASKET BAG
A new craze has hit London. Swept straight over the English Channel, we have become obsessed with those French style wicker baskets. No longer are they for bread and fruit while visiting the supermarket. Now they contain a sea of make up, credit cards and cigarettes. If there’s anything thats going to make us feel french its this. This one is actually a Topshop version of the original Jane Birkin style, it was only a matter of time of course, but now at £24 they are all sold out! But why not grab the real version from Vestiaire?
2. THE SUNNIES
Be mysterious, always. And sunglasses are the best way to do that. I have a couple now, each for each persona. These are the newest edition, Giorgio Armani from the fashion bible that is Farfetch. Round and mirrored, they’re sure to keep you’re eyes covered whilst people watching on those covered cafes.
3. THE RELAXED DRESS
Easy dresses are the best. you don’t have to think about them, just throw on, add a little cardi or leather if needed. You want the dress to be effortless, flowy is good but you don’t want too much. This is the day dress that you can wear day to night, because us French ladies don’t dress up too much, we’re laid back and cool.
4. THE TRAINERS
Continuing that trend, we wear trainers, a lot. Not because we’re sporty (we have gym trainers for that), but because again, we’re so laid back. No fuss. No blisters. Easy from wine stop to wine stop. I’m crazy about Feiyues, a traditional jiu jitsu trainer, but its no longer on sale in the uk! You might be lucky enough to grab some on ebay, but for now keep it to old school vans, converse and Nikes.
