There is a definite art to casual dressing. That perfect formal of throw on easy casual, verse still looking incredibly chic and ready for any occasion. This is something I thrive on. I only wear clothes which I’m comfortable in, and my life motto is underdressed not overdressed. So with Net-A-Porter, I’ve created the easy formula to casual dressing, the 4 components that will keep you looking effortless no matter what the occasion.
First of all I’d start with the jumper. Every winter I invest a few stand out ones that I know will do the talking. You want a jumper that’s cosy (nobody wants to relax in itchy fabric), but also one that steals the limelight. This will be the focal point, the one that elevates your casual attire so make it fun with either the shape or print – I’m obsessed with everything tie dye at the moment.
Next it’s the jeans, and this is incredibly important for all seasons/occasions/trends. You need one pair of killer jeans, and for me its Re/Done. Their styles scream vintage cool, and I’m obsessed with their high waist, straight leg design. In the last two years I’ve fluttered between two washes, and I’m now about to invest in the third.
For those wanting the exact same, I’m wearing the Original Stove Pipes in the traditional tough denim, but they now come out in a slightly stretchy denim which fit like a dream.
Now, this is the tricky part; picking the right trainer. For me personally I love the chunky trainer trend but I feel like they’re not really me, so I’ve migrated more to the tennis style trainer or work out runner – I love that ‘are you going to the gym or just relaxing’ vibe.
These are from the new Adidas x Khaite collaboration exclusive at Net-A-Porter, which I’m obsessed with! Khaite are one of my favourite designers, and these have that chic edge which would go perfectly with a little cashmere.
The last piece to the puzzle is the casual bag, a bag which is mini, and either interesting in fabric/colour/design – this is something you want to be distinguishably different from your work bag, so make it fun!
