HOW TO DO POLISHED CASUAL

There is definitely an art to looking chic whilst in your comfy casuals. Pieces that make you feel elevated, whether at home or running errands, need to be a lot more thought-out than people might think. It may look like a lot of oversized layers, but this vibe is about carefully selected items that compliment each other. Combining soft and luxurious materials, in various neutral shades with clever accents of colour.

Teaming up with Selfridges, I’ve putting together my exact formula on how to create this effortless and confident look.

THE CARDIGAN/JACKET

This is a hybrid piece, cosy enough to wear at home, thick enough to layer as a coat. Lauren Manoogian is my go-to for this. It’s an investment brand, but buy now and wear a million times.

THE JUMPER

This season the jumpers are just as chunky as last year in the knit, but the shape and volume has slight shrunk. A slightly shorter jumper will really compliment the proportions of the rest of the look.

THE WIDE, WOOL TROUSERS

I’ve been favouring a wider trouser for the last couple of years now, I find them incredibly flattering when the proportions of the outfit are well thought-out. I find that the barrel leg shape works best with cropped jumpers (or with them slightly tucked in at the front) and a long chunky cardigan on top. When going for a straight leg, full length style, I would team them with a boxer shaped jumper and a cardigan/coat that cuts off below the bum.

THE ACCESSORIES

This is something I’ve started to have a lot more fun with this year whilst styling this vibe. Teaming those soft oversized layers with chunky beanies and shearling lined Birkenstocks or Uggs. These are the pieces that will really elevate the look, especially those alpaca wool bags which I have only just come across.
